BDI to present at the 2025 World Congress on insulin resistance (#WCIRDC25)

BDI will present its latest study “The impact of diabetes on fracture risk and thoracic bone mineral density: latest clinical implications from the multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis (MESA)” at the World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes & Cardiovascular Disease (WCIRDC), taking place in December 5, 2025.

This study is led by Matthew Budoff, MD, Chief Medical Officer of BDI, Inc. and Investigator at The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA. The research examines critical and emerging evidence on how type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) influences bone mineral density (BMD) and fracture risk. Leveraging data from 1,762 participants in the MESA cohort (881 with T2DM matched 1:1 with controls), the analysis uncovers a complex and clinically significant relationship:

  • Individuals with T2DM show higher thoracic trabecular bone density, yet paradoxically

  • Experience higher rates of vertebral and total fractures, particularly with longer diabetes duration.

These findings challenge conventional assumptions about bone health in T2DM and highlight the importance of deeper clinical investigation into diabetes-related skeletal fragility.

We look forward to sharing these insights with the global endocrinology and cardiometabolic research community at #WCIRDC25.
